L. Margaret Powell is a writer, artist, consciousness researcher, meditator, and storyteller with over thirty years of spiritual practice bridging dimensions of awareness and perception. She holds a degree in biochemistry and has spent decades exploring the intersection of science, consciousness, and mysticism.
The Bewitching Scope is her first novel—a faery fantasy born from twenty-three years of creative dreaming about timelines, dimensional awareness, and a natural magic that exists in the spaces between worlds, woven into the wonder and awe of existence itself.
When she’s not writing, L. Margaret can be found engaging in long discussions about the amorphous intersection of physics and consciousness, hiking deep in old-growth forests or the high rock deserts, making art, sitting in meditation, not watering her cactus collection, and contemplating elemental Fae magic.

This is the part where I tell you it took twenty three years.
I started writing this story almost in a different century! Different drafts, different versions — but always the same two sisters with the same dynamic at the heart of it. Always the same ancient magic hiding in the forests of British Columbia, and the same crystal city, and always named The Bewitching Scope. Always the same feeling that this story wasn't finished yet.
Life happened, the way life does. The manuscript waited, the way manuscripts do when they know they're not ready. I needed to work out the villain. And the complex timeline magic. I needed to pace the story better and develop book writing skills. I knew someday I'd come back. Someday. But it never let me go.
Neither did my mother. She asked often. She read the nine hundred pages of the first draft, written mostly for my own enjoyment of creating a magical world I wanted to live in. She kept vigil over this story the way you keep vigil over something you believe in completely — quietly, steadily, remembering when I forgot.
In 2026 I finally became the writer this story needed. The world of the Pruitt sisters — the ancient forests, the hidden city, the kaleidoscope that shows you things that shouldn't be possible — finally came alive the way I always knew it could.
The Bewitching Scope is Book One of a trilogy that has been living in my heart for over two decades. It is the story of two sisters, an ancient bloodline, and the hardest magic of all — learning to ask for help from the people you love most.
It is for every child who feels everything deeply.
And for my mother, who never stopped believing it would bloom.
